Minor Employees Under the Age of 18

Minor employees under the age of 18 must take a 35-minute unpaid break for every five hours workedThe break is off the clock

time, and it is required that they take a full 35-minute break. Employees are relieved of all work during unpaid breaks”.

The given text outlines a Minor Labor Law Policy that defines "minor" as any person under 18 years of age. Every minor employee between 14 and 17 years old must have a working permit and complete a Minor Wage Agreement. Restrictions are placed on working hours for minors based on their age, including the number of hours per day and week, and during school hours. Some occupations are prohibited for minors under 16 years old, such as working in freezers and using ladders. It is mandatory for minor employees to take a 35-minute unpaid break for every five hours worked, during which they must be relieved of all work.

While working fast food, employees under 16, are not even allowed to go into freezers or refrigerators. What is so bad that an employee under the age of 16 can’t even enter a refrigerator. Also, employees under 16 can’t work over 3 hours on a school day. What about the students that help pay bills or the students that absolutely need the money. If we assume they’re working for minimum wage, that’s only $31 a day. That is not enough to live off of. And those few things are just the tip of the iceberg.

This petition is a movement to undo the recent labor laws pasted and to allow our youth workers to work the hours they want, to a certain extent, and to make their own decisions with their guardian’s permission.

Not only is the youth impacted but so are local businesses and restaurants as most of their workers are “minors”.

We as the people need to act now before they don’t let our youths even work in the coming future. This is the future of our country, do we really want to teach them that it’s okay to no learn life skills at a young but appropriate age? What is a young employee going to learn when they can’t even enter a freezer without breaking labor laws?

The adults of this country are making rules for the youth that they don’t even agree on. Let our youth work… please for the sake of this country!

According to whitehouse.gov you can submit a petition at 13 but yet your not allowed to get a bag of lettuce from the fridge.
