In the US, the government calls it Native American Heritage Month. Indigenous People like to be called by their specific tribal names. It would only make sense to call it Indigenous People Awareness Month instead. 

We were able to change Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day so why not change Native American Heritage Month to Indigenous People Awareness Month? We were able to make changes before why not change this too?
