Change Indiana state slogan back crossroads of America.

The Issue

Indiana recently changed all the signs across the state at its borders from its life long recognition as the cross roads of America. The new sign and slogan does not recognize Indiana’s long recognized history of basically being the crossroads junction for travel and commerce across the country. As well the new sign doesn’t even welcome travelers to the state, in the Midwest we are known for courtesy and welcoming and this new sign does not show that. As a life long resident when I was in school I was taught the importance of Indiana as a crossroads state that helped this country flourish from the grand Ohio to us being the true gateway to the west Indiana should forever be known as the cross roads of America which should be reflected in our welcome signs at our borders.

As far as what is at stake Indiana itself will look worse being one of if not the only state that doesn’t truly welcome its visitors into the state. The new slogan for the sign also gives off an unsaid feeling of we know you have heard not great things but there is “more to discover in Indiana” which more over makes the state look like we are trying to say hey look we know we have some issues but let me show you around.

The reason to make this change now is that the signs were just changed before everyone has a chance to really see the signs and realize these feelings that I stated above. The sign was iconic of the Midwest just like Indiana is we are the crossroads of America take a trip on any of our roads and you can discover what we have but keep the slogan the same we have been the crossroads of America officially since 1937 but the crossroads of America was established in 1816 that’s almost 210 years of being the crossroads and heart of trade and travel in American and I feel as though it is what is best for the state and her people to be known for.
