We, the Global Studies seniors graduating in the Spring of 2024, are upset with the graduation changes unilaterally declared for our major by The Chancellor’s Office. 

Our ceremony is currently planned to take place on Friday, May 10th at 7pm. In total, 9 departments will be part of our ceremony and represent a total of  400 students, each expected to be recognized  in only two hours. 

This ceremony format does not allow for a proper celebration of the students. Individuals who received awards or completed honors theses will not be recognized. 

This senior class has already faced many disadvantages compared to our peers from other grades-- we missed our first year of college, had to complete orientation virtually, and, most importantly, never got a high school graduation ceremony due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Our parents would love the opportunity to celebrate all of our accomplishments in a meaningful way, and so would we. We would love the opportunity to graduate with the community we have created within our major and we feel very strongly about changing how graduation will be run. 

We do not want a rushed, massive, and impersonal graduation to be the last taste of Carolina we have.
