Change garden grove's ordinance on potbelly pigs

Change garden grove's ordinance on potbelly pigs
The Issue
For five years, my two beloved potbelly pigs have been a part of my family and cherished members of our community in Garden Grove. These delightful animals have not only brought immense joy and companionship into our lives but have also become local celebrities, attracting visitors from across the city, including parents with children who delight in visiting them. My pigs are exceptionally clean, non-allergenic, and free of fleas, making them wonderful and hygienic companions both indoors and outdoors. My neighbors appreciate them, often stopping to interact during their walks.
Recently, I received a letter from the city instructing me to remove them from my property within 13 days. This unexpected and heartbreaking news threatens to tear apart a family and upend the joy my pigs bring to our neighborhood.
Garden Grove currently enforces an ordinance that prohibits potbelly pigs within the city limits. However, countless municipalities across the nation have successfully incorporated potbelly pigs into urban settings by recognizing them as domestic pets. Given their friendly nature, cleanliness, and the profound bonds they form with their human families, it’s time for Garden Grove to reconsider its outdated regulations.
Potbelly pigs have long been acknowledged for their intelligence and emotional depth, often compared to that of dogs. Many cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco, have adjusted their laws to allow these animals to thrive as family pets, harmoniously coexisting with residents.
We propose that Garden Grove amends its ordinance to allow potbelly pigs as household pets, with proper licensing and guidelines to ensure the well-being of the animals and the community. By updating these regulations, we can make way for a more inclusive and compassionate city that values all forms of companionship, recognizing the diverse ways we define family.
Please sign this petition to help us persuade the city officials to modify their stance and allow potbelly pigs to stay in their loving homes. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these adored animals and the families who cherish them.
