Change for motorists, reform the insurance industry.

Change for motorists, reform the insurance industry.
The Issue
Currently in the UK car insurance is a legal requirement meaning that the industry currently runs pretty much unchallenged. Motorists are forced to pay a fortune and navigate an industry which is just awful to deal with.
I myself have come across many issues attempting to get my vehicle insured which has resulted in lengthy and often confusing insurance quotes. They are taking into account my history which is made up of non fault incidents where the third party has been found liable. I have had to navigate and fill out way too many forms to find because my current car is a Japanese import.
Listed is a small selection of barriers.
- Prices
- Misleading and confusing websites
- Problems with vehicle details
It is well overdue an overhaul of the whole industry, I suggest the following changes
- A much clearer pricing structure with fairer prices,
- Easier to navigate through the many websites maybe even a standard form and questions across the industry.
- Remove non fault accidents from pricing decisions. Currently non fault incidents are still counted and affect pricing. If it's a genuine non fault claim why should it affect the driver.
- If its a legal requirement to use the roads then should the government subsidise the industry through maybe lowering the industry tax for the motorist.
- Clearer information on getting a quote upfront whether your vehicle can be insured such as modified, classic and imported cars. Many times you are refused only after completing lengthy and often confusing forms.
To some people a vehicle is a necessity which they are struggling to insure sometimes making a decision which affects their lives. Currently a car is seen as a luxury still not a necessity to some leading to people taking risks driving uninsured in order to actually drive their vehicles which is illegal, even a police officer has stated to me they understand why people drive uninsured due to the system. Something needs to change before the problem gets worse it is time for the UK government to assess the situation and help the public out rather than allow the insurance companies to profit hugely from us.
