Rehabilitators are too overwhelmed to take new animals in but it’s illegal to help wildlife without a permit. Rehabilitators don't receive any compensation or finical help so they are becoming scarce. When confronting DNR with these issues they advise you to leave these wild animals to the elements and allow nature take its course. If you try to help while the rehabbers are over crowded, you will be punished for breaking the law. The new law that allows the shooting of animals deemed a nuisance, yet prohibits aiding in the rehabilitation of suffering wildlife, is both cruel and unbalanced. If it’s legal to kill mammals, why can’t we legally help them? This contradiction in our laws needs to be addressed. We urge lawmakers and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to revise these restrictions and allow Neither compassionate individuals the ability to rehabilitate wildlife in need.
