As an athlete and frequent user of DeFazio Park in Needham, I can personally attest to the challenges and hazards posed by the gravel parking lot. Navigating this uneven surface is not only inconvenient, but also potentially dangerous for all drivers and pedestrians, especially during adverse weather conditions when gravel can become loose and slippery. 

DeFazio Park is a hub for various sports and community activities, attracting a large number of visitors every day. The current gravel surface creates unnecessary risks of vehicle damage specifically to your cars rims, suspension, and tires. The potholes also cause your tires to wear away and leave harmful rubber pollution behind that will  ultimately get washed into Needham’s protected wetlands

A paved parking lot would not only improve safety and accessibility for everyone but also enhance the overall usability and appearance of this beloved community space. Furthermore, paved surfaces are easier to maintain and cleaner, minimizing the dust and debris that can be kicked up by vehicles and cause discomfort or health issues for athletes and spectators who frequent the area. 

Transitioning the parking lot surface from gravel to pavement is a practical solution that would bring immediate and long-lasting benefits to the whole community. Therefore, we urge the Needham Town Council to grant the necessary permits to implement this change.
