Change Buc-ee’s Employee Policy on Tattoos and Piercings

The Issue

More and more Americans are getting tattoos and piercings, and some people even get them for religious reasons. Tattoos and piercings show a person's creativity and uniqueness; they make us who we are today. While it is understandable to restrict visible tattoos that are offensive or vulgar, Buc-ee’s current policy does not allow any visible tattoos, no facial piercings, and only a singular ear piercing. This is frustrating for future applicants who have unhealed piercings.

According to a 2019 Ipsos poll, three in ten Americans have at least one tattoo (source: Ipsos). Additionally, the Pew Research Center found that nearly 40% of millennials have at least one tattoo (source: Pew Research Center). These statistics highlight the growing acceptance of body art in our society.

It’s time for Buc-ee’s to update its employee policy to reflect this cultural shift. Allowing employees to express themselves through non-offensive tattoos and multiple piercings can foster an inclusive work environment that celebrates individuality.
