The Issue
The residents of Brook Park are facing a growing problem: we are being turned away or denied access to our own city pool due to overcrowding from non-residents and large school groups. Over the years, this issue has escalated to such an extent that even during non-peak and normal days, we find ourselves unable to enjoy the community facility meant for our families and children. Our pool should prioritize the leisure and welfare of Brook Park residents, rather than maximizing "increased" profit from external visitors, who may not even be paying the raised fee for non-residents, as confirmation of residency is not consistently verified.
The Brook Park community has long prided itself on its cohesiveness and family-centric atmosphere. Safe and easy access to local recreational amenities like the pool plays a crucial role in maintaining this community spirit. However, with the current state of affairs, our children lack the opportunity to socialize and relax in their community pool.
It is commendable to welcome others to our township's resources, yet when it comes at the expense of those who reside here, an imbalance is apparent and unacceptable. A resolution that prioritizes the needs of residents, particularly during the hottest periods when pool usage is at its peak, is urgently necessary to restore fairness and accessibility to our community resources.
To address this issue, I propose that the Brook Park pool should exclusively serve Brook Park residents or, alternatively, include residents within the broader BCSD (Berea City School District) area, ensuring that community values are preserved and overcrowding is addressed. Allowing residents to bring a certain amount of non-resident guests is also an option to still include those outside of our community.
