The sight of rubbish piling up on our streets is something many of us, as residents of Bolton, are unfortunately becoming all too familiar with. Since the reduction in bin size as well as the shift to biweekly collections this has led to an overwhelming amount of waste lining our roads and lanes. It's not just unpleasant; it's impacting our mental well-being and tarnishing the environment that we care so deeply for.

Our community is suffering. The increase in illegal fly-tipping and litter-strewn streets is becoming the norm rather than the exception. It's evident every time we step outside our homes, when we gaze upon the unsightly heaps of garbage that greet us. This not only affects our sense of comfort and safety but also sets a poor example for the younger generation. Growing up amidst piles of waste teaches them nothing about caring for their surroundings or the importance of maintaining a clean neighborhood, which, at its core, is an essential part of community pride.

The reduction in bin size coupled with less frequent waste collections has created an impossible situation for many of us trying to manage household waste adequately. This policy change is seemingly short-sighted and fails to account for the practical needs of a thriving community in particular the large families that cannot cope with a bin so small only being emptied on a bi weekly basis. The current system isn't working and is crying out for reconsideration. We believe in a simple yet powerful solution: either revert to the larger bins or return the collection schedule to a weekly cycle.

Such measures are not unheard of. Many other cities and towns have recognized the necessity of maintaining cleaner streets and the importance of regular waste collections, this  indicates that more frequent waste collection can drastically reduce fly-tipping incidents and improve overall community aesthetics.

We are asking our local council to not only acknowledge these concerns but act upon them with urgency. A cleaner community enhances the quality of life for everyone, providing a safer, healthier, and more enjoyable environment. The change we're advocating for not only addresses the visible issues on our streets but also fosters a culture of responsibility, teaching future generations the value of a clean, cared-for environment.
