Change application deadline for Hutchinson's paramedic-to-RN program

The Issue

WE ASK: CHANGE HUTCHCC PARAMEDIC-TO-RN PROGRAM DEADLINE TO DECEMBER, NOT AUGUST. TO ALIGN WITH PROFESSIONAL CALENDARS, HELP STUDENTS PLAN, AND SAVE MONEY!

I am writing to raise an important issue that affects my future career opportunities and financial stability. As an aspiring nursing professional, the current application deadline for the paramedic-to-RN bridge program at Hutchinson Community College is hindering students' ability to pursue this essential career advancement. Currently set in August, the deadline does not align with a fair or practical application cycle for many of us who have professional or personal commitments during this time. Hutchington's LPN-to-RN program application deadline is in August with their program starting the fall semester, while the Paramedic-to-RN program has the same August deadline but starting in Spring.

The current deadline forces many prospective students to rush their applications without the necessary time to gather all documentation and thoughtfully complete requirements. Many of us hold paramedic positions that demand our full attention, especially in the summer months when shifts can be more strenuous due to vacation schedules among colleagues. Moving the deadline to December would provide a more level playing field, make the programs consistent with the LPN-to-RN program, and allowing candidates ample time to transition smoothly into the program.

A December deadline would align more closely with the academic calendar, giving students time to assess their previous academic year performance before applying. It would also allow potential applicants to better plan financially to tackle any associated costs, contributing to a more stable and prepared student body.

The paramedic-to-RN bridge program is a crucial pathway for many in the healthcare profession, providing advancement opportunities essential not just for personal career growth but also for addressing the broader nursing shortage affecting healthcare facilities. Enhancing access by simply adjusting the application deadline can lead to a more robust applicant pool, ultimately enhancing the quality of care provided in our communities.

Our aim is clear: shift the deadline to benefit both current and future paramedics aspiring to become registered nurses. This simple adjustment requires administrative consideration, understanding of the community needs, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational environment.

Please sign this petition to show your support for potentially hundreds of future healthcare workers impacted by this deadline. Together, we can advocate for an academic schedule that reflects real-world challenges and needs.
