The Issue
Over the years Apple has received many complaints from previous or current female employees. Except no one hears about them because Apple pays good money to ensure that all reports and complaints are hidden from the public. Many of the women employed by this company are suffering from harassment everyday. They suffer in silence because they know that no good will come out of placing a report. Most women who try to report what is occurring just leads to the harassment becoming more unbearable. There are hundreds of past employees who have come forward over the past couple of years in response to the #METOO movement. What can be done to ensure employees are in safer hands from experiencing harassment?
Every business and company has to have an employee conduct policy. This policy must include a section for harassment. When looking at the Apple business conduct policy the harassment section barely includes anything important. There is no definition of harassment as well as no explanation of what behaviors might be considered harassment. In addition, there are no examples as well as making sure it is circulated and well known to all employees. We need to make a stand to ensure that Apple finally makes a difference in their policy to ensure some defense against harassment towards these women. I know there is a good chance that you, the reader, has personally experienced a form of harassment. You know how difficult it is and how important it is to ensure that no one has to face the terrible circumstances that you possibly went through. I personally have experienced what harassment can do to your mental health and wellbeing. So help me help these women and ensure that Apple changes their policy.
