I recently signed a petition from change.org that was quite moderate and had no real leaning toward one side of the political spectrum. It had to do with the manner in which tax credits were calculated for electric vehicles. The reasoning was straightforward and the desired outcome was appealing to many regardless of whether left leaning or right leaning.

Now I get email after email asking for me to sign petitions. Unfortunately, they are all left leaning. And many are extremely left leaning. This bias has made me regret signing the EV petition even though I agree with its principals. Further, it makes me frustrated with change.org and makes me feel like they promote activism for activism’s sake rather than actually trying to help people discern which causes are worth supporting. It is my belief that activism for activism’s sake is a divisive force.

Please sign my petition to help send a message, not only to change.org, but to all activist groups that they really need to tone down the rhetoric and be agents of social good who only ramp up the emotional intensity when there is a broad unifying cause that really deserves national attention and will actually bring people together if acted upon.
