Abolish NCSU Graduate Student Fees

Abolish NCSU Graduate Student Fees
The Issue
At North Carolina State University, students pay some of the highest fees in the country. Graduate students at NC State are in a unique position because most are employed by the university as teaching assistants or research assistants. This means that graduate students have to "pay to work", often 15% or more of their annual salary. The graduate students are already paid poverty-level stipends and simply cannot afford to lose any of it due to fees, most of which goes to fund undergraduate programs and infrastructure. NC State grad students want graduate student fees abolished so they can earn closer to a living wage. UNC Chapel Hill was able to achieve this goal in the spring of 2019, and it is time for NCSU to do the same. NC State graduate workers are responsible for keeping the university running and it's time that their pay reflects their contributions and worth. The university works because we do.
