To the Chancellor, Registrar, VIT Management and other concerned authorities,

We are in the midst of a deadly pandemic started due to the novel coronavirus a few months ago, which has forced the entire world to shut all activities and stay at homes. The answer to when this pandemic will end is absolutely uncertain and unpredictable. All mathematical assumptions made by experts till now have been proven wrong. The virus has been dominating all the medical inventions available and being developed and thus, there is still a long way for us to go and say that pandemic has ended.

Most of the experts predict that all major industries will be closed till september or october, and one of them is the education industry. Central Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has assured that decision about reopening of educational institutions will not be taken before september

Students of VIT have been asked to pay the entire tution fee and hostel and mess charges by 1st July, in the recent circular related to FFCS by dean academics, which is very difficult for most of the students. Many students have financial problems already and parents of many students are in financial crisis due to the severe effect of pandemic on their work, and indirectly, earning.

VIT tuition fees is really high and students need time as well as compensation for the fess to be paid. Given that none of us are using most of the facilties of provided by university, there is no reason to pay the full academic fees and, as hostels and messes are closed, even paying the hostel and mess charges is completely illogical.

Some of the facilties students are not using include:

1) Not accessing classrooms and labs, which reduces a huge amount of electricity bill.

2) Water and electricity charges in hostels.

3) Unlimited wifi fees, which again reduces huge amount

4) Library access

5)Examination fee

6) Extra curricular activities or resources like sports grounds, outdoor stadium, etc.

7) Air-conditioned labs and smart classrooms and galleries

8) Other technology usage fees

And, numerous other fees, which is coming to VIT as profit only. There is no point for students to pay full fees.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even the government and education minister has reminded the organizations many times that they should not force students or members to pay fees or other amounts quickly and reduce them as much as possible. Many universities have extended and reduced fees to ensure the betterment of their students.

We expect this from VIT that it takes the below necessary decisions as it claims to be one of the finest universities and provide help to students to build their career. So, if students are not able to pay fees and complete their degree, their career would be at risk or it will end. It may promote many of them to make wrong and dangerous decisions due to mental and financial pressure.

We, the STUDENTS of VIT, request the mentioned persons and authorities of VIT, to take all these factors and points into consideration and make it easy for its students to fight the pandemic by reducing ACADEMIC FEES BY ATLEAST 50% and certain amount of hostel fees for the upcoming semster as students will probably not be reporting to campus before september.

***Students will not be paying the academic and hostel fees, if the date is not extended and fees is not reduced, and will be appealing to higher and external authorities, if necessary steps are not taken.***

Regards,

Students of VIT (all campuses)
