Like many of you reading this, affordable housing holds a deeply personal meaning for me. I've witnessed first-hand the distress and challenges that individuals and families face when they cannot find stable, financial-friendly living conditions. Sadly, dear family members and close friends of mine have been affected by this pressing issue.

The reality is that numerous people across the country are grappling with the often-exorbitant expenses linked with housing. According to data from the National Low Income Housing Coalition, no state, metropolitan area, or county in the U.S. has an adequate supply of affordable rental homes for the lowest income renters. Indeed, there exists a shortage of over seven million affordable homes for extremely low-income renters (Zillow, 2019).

This begs a deeper societal shift to redefine how we perceive and ensure affordable housing for all. A house represents more than just a roof over our heads. It is where hopes are nurtured, families flourish, and dreams materialize. But for this to be true for everyone, we need robust policies and statewide measures to address the lack of affordable homes.
