I am a bilingual Puerto Rican who was born in the United States, and I firmly believe in our cherished freedom of speech. This petition is raised out of deep concern for the marginalization of Spanish speakers due to Trump's executive order that unfairly targets them. The United States, known for its diversity and pluralism, is home to over 41 million native Spanish speakers. And an additional 11.6 million people are bilingual (Pew Research Center). There is a beauty and strength in our multilingual society, which must be supported, not silenced by any form of discriminatory policies. This order does more than just target a language; it impacts real people, their livelihoods, and essential freedoms. Therefore, we must unite. We must alibi our voices to protect our multicultural society and the inherent right to speak in one's native language, Spanish, in this case.
