I am an ordinary working person, just like many of you. Recently, my mortgage has increased by £200 per month due to the mini budget introduced by Kwasi Kwarteng and Liz Truss. This financial strain is not unique to me; it's a reality for countless individuals during this cost of living crisis. Now, we are faced with another blow - the lifting of the bankers' bonus cap.

This decision means that while we struggle to make ends meet, bankers will be rewarded with bonuses. Our hard-earned pay rises are being funneled straight into the pockets of millionaires instead of supporting those who need it most.

It's important to note that in 2013, when the EU introduced a cap on bankers' bonuses at 100% of their salary or 200% with shareholder approval, it was aimed at reducing risk-taking and curbing excessive pay (source: European Banking Authority).
