Challenge the installation of speed bumps in our neighborhood

The Issue

In our beloved neighborhood, decisions are usually made with the participation and input of the community. However, the recent decision to install speed bumps was neither inclusive nor transparent. A small group, along with the town authorities, pushed this project without seeking broad consensus or considering the needs and opinions of the majority of residents.

Initially, a speed study was conducted, but it failed to provide conclusive results that necessitated such drastic measures. Despite this, there was no effort to share the findings of the second study with the community, leaving most of us in the dark about the actual data driving this decision.

Neighborhoods thrive on inclusivity, transparency, and mutual respect among residents and authorities. Ignoring these principles not only breeds resentment but also jeopardizes future collaboration on community projects. It is crucial that all residents are given a fair opportunity to voice their concerns and are informed about the issues affecting our everyday lives.

Speed bumps can indeed be a useful tool for traffic calming, but determining their necessity should be a collective decision, derived from concrete evidence and shared studies. Additionally, there are alternative traffic calming solutions available, such as improved signage, pedestrian crossings, or speed monitoring which might suit our neighborhood better without inconvenience.

We kindly urge the town authorities to rethink the installation of speed bumps. We request that a transparent, well-communicated survey be conducted, and that all previous studies be shared with the community. Let us work together to explore all possible solutions to manage traffic calmly without disrupting our peaceful neighborhood life.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair decision-making and wish to see more inclusive planning in our neighborhood's future developments.
