I am a local resident, deeply concerned about the latest move by South Lanarkshire Council. They are planning to charge us, its loyal taxpayers, a standalone fee of £45 for the collection of garden waste. This was previously covered in our Council Tax, but now, they wish us to pay extra!

This comes despite our already significant Council Tax contributions, which are supposed to account for local services such as our garden waste collection. Will we soon have another standalone charge for recycling paper and other items? This trend is alarming and raises serious questions about the allocation and management of our tax contributions.

Statistics have shown that extra charges for waste disposal can discourage recycling and proper waste management among residents (Gov.UK). If we allow the Council to impose these additional charges, it could lead to a significant increase in incorrect waste disposal and could cause harm to our beloved local environment.

We cannot stand idle and let this unjust action pass without protest.
