Reopen the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen railway line!

Reopen the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen railway line!

The Issue

The former railway line between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen, via Lampeter was closed to regular passenger traffic in 1965, and completely to freight traffic in 1973. The whole line was lifted in 1975, but I do honestly believe that this railway line should be reopened to link South Wales, and West Wales with North Wales together directly by rail.

This is the missing link in Wales as a whole, and the benefits of reopening this railway line are huge.

Restoring this once vital route is a must, and it does need to happen! It needs to be considered a ''priority''.

I also believe that this line does have huge potential, in so many ways.

This railway line, if it were to be reopened would be a great asset for those living in the local area.

I want to be able to convince the Welsh Assembly Government that reopening this railway line is the best thing forward, and I think that the County Council's in the local area near, and along the old route should get involved and support/back this petition.

By reopening this railway line the missing link between the two towns is restored, linking the three university towns of Aberystwyth, Lampeter and Carmarthen directly by rail once again for the future.

The majority of the original route still exists as of today, with only a small minority of the line having been built on/over.
