Ceredigion Council - Pay the Cost-of-Living Crisis Payment NOW!

The Issue

Ceredigion Council are delaying the much needed £150 'cost-of-living' payment to cash strapped local residents and families. The council told the Cambrian News (16/05/22) that there is still no confirmed date for when payments will be made. The council received the money from Welsh Government before April. While they sit on the cash, more vulnerable and worse off people in Ceredigion have to choose between heating and eating.

Swansea Council paid out the cost-of-living payment to Swansea residents in April, along with many other councils who have recognised the urgency of the current financial cost of living and fuel crisis that residents are facing.

1 in 5 people in Ceredigion live in poverty... 150 people in Ceredigion died in 2019 having experienced poverty in the last year of their life – around 19 per cent of the total number of deaths in the area (Cambrian News, 22/05/22).

Executive Officers of Ceredigion Council had their salaries increased in September to between £121,618 and £130,108, and our newly elected County Councillors get an allowance rise to £16,800 for a three-day week.

Ceredigion Council Executives and Councillors, we want the cost-of-living payments to be made to those who need it most, now!
