The Issue
It would appear that Gotogate have built up a reputation for betraying potential clients - this can be confirmed by clicking on - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gotogate/133562563369943
In my case I booked a flight for my step son to fly from Paris(CDG) to Moscow. Barclaycard was used to pay for the ticket and the transaction was completed. I received the details of the ticket from Gotogate and I thought that was it - WRONG.
When we arrived at the check-in desk at Charles de Gaulle airport we were informed that the ticket had been cancelled. We were referred to the person in charge of the check-in desk and she made some enquiries and confirmed that the ticket had been cancelled by Gotogate because the name on the ticket did not match the name of the person paying for the ticket (i.e. me) and this made them suspect there could be "Terrorist activity".
Balderdash - Barclaycard accepted the payment so why didn't they contact Barclaycard or someone involved with policing Terrorism ???
In the meantime I had to make new arrangements for my step son to fly to Moscow. It was fortunate that I was there because he only speaks Russian and he would not have had the financial means to purchase another ticket. It was also fortunate that there was a later flight to Moscow BUT that cost me twice as much.
Later I was able to check out various things on the Internet. Barclaycard had honoured the payment for the flight ticket but several days later Gotogate had refunded the money and it had been credited to my Barclaycard account. Needless to say I lost out in the transactions as the exchange rate had changed and I received less than I had paid out. I cannot work out whether Gotogate had benefitted financially by having my money for several days.
Several days after contacting Gotogate by e-mail they responded alleging that they had sent an e-mail that required a response and that they could prove that they had sent it - big deal. They couldn't prove that it had been received by anyone. They had the e-mail addresses of my step son and myself and both our telephone numbers but neither of us received any communication from Gotogate. I have to confess that I am unable to work out what their motive is but I am certain that they do this for some gain as it has happened to so many people.
If you have suffered from the actions of this company then I implore you to register your complaint by signing this petition and by forwarding to others who may have suffered the same sort of indignity.
My step son's flight was on 27th July2015 the e-mail received from Gotogate stating the flight was cancelled was dated 30th July 2015 three days after the flight was due to depart ???
Is anybody able to give me an explanation?
Frankly I think Gotogate should be avoided like the plague.
