I find it heartwrenching that Rainbow Cinema in Saskatoon is being coerced into closure in May, 2020. It is the only cinema in the city that doesn't require families to break the bank to catch a flick.

The owner desired to re-up his lease on the space in Centre Mall, but the incoming Cineplex Theatre negotiated a "no other cinema in the same mall" clause in their contract. While I understand this negotiation, it seems highly unlikely that Rainbow would affect Cineplex's bottom line, since their respective target demographics are about as far from one another as could be.

Rainbow Cinema has a rich history in the city of Saskatoon, providing an affordable evening out for lower income families. Additionally, from a personal perspective, my daughter has autism and oftentimes has a difficult time getting through a movie before we have to leave. For families in similar situations, Rainbow Cinema not only offers cheap admission, so it doesn't feel like as big of a deal if we have to duck out halfway through a film, but also the most relaxed atmosphere of all the cinemas in the city.

It is a shame that Rainbow will have to close its doors next spring, and I urge you to sign this petition if you would like it to have an opportunity to continue operating as is.

Thank you for your support.
