Get Central Bucks School District to abide by FAACT recommended food allergy protocols

Get Central Bucks School District to abide by FAACT recommended food allergy protocols
The Issue
On average 2 children in every classroom in the US suffer from Food Allergies. Food Allergies are a recognized disability under Federal law & children with food allergies are entitled to learn in a safe environment! The Central Bucks School District in Bucks County, PA is behind the times in current food allergy education & accommodations.
FAACT & FARE are national recognized nonprofits devoted to education & advocacy for those with food allergies as well as food allergy research. On their website the give clear guidelines & suggestions for accommodations that should be made to keep allergic children safe in school. They do NOT call for making entire school nut free. They do clearly state protocols that can be used to increase safety, including the washing of hands before and after eating with soap & water. Using wipes is an acceptable alternative when washing is not available. This is also recommended by CDC guidance for food allergy management. CBSD however ignores these recommendations and consults physicians who are NOT allergist to create protocol. They continue to battle parents simply trying to ensure their child’s safe learning environment.
CBSD needs to be educated in current food allergy protocols & accommodations as recommended by the foremost authorities on the subject. They should adopt the guidelines recommended by FAACT & FARE & consult only a board certified allergist when question arise in regards to allergies.
