CBSE Term 1 exams to be conducted online for class 10th and 12th.
Why this petition matters
ONLINE STUDY = ONLINE EXAMS! Studying online and giving exams offline is like joining army after playing PUBG!
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is a national level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by Union Government of India. It was founded in year 1929 during the colonial period with number of school under its affiliation increasing every year. And obviously the number students also rose exponentially. It conducts final examination for classes 10th and 12th every year wherein almost 300k appear all over India. And CBSE had been pretty amazingly managing it all flawlessly.
But the above things apply for any normal year with no pandemic like COVID-19 prevailing in the country. In year 2020, COVID-19, a pandemic declared by WHO was devastating the country with numerous cases everyday. It was followed by a second wave in the first quarter of 2021, caused by a deadlier strain of the virus, with maximum of about 5lakh cases. Now, CBSE's management not acquainted to any such situation, seemed outdated with parents not willing to send kids to school for offline exams was a cherry on the cake. Finally, unable to think a safer way and stayed on its orthodox belief of not conducting exams online, the boards were cancelled.
Now, CBSE has come-up with a new examination pattern with year divided into two terms with 50% syllabus each and an board regulated exam for each term. So, in accordance to this new pattern, the Term-1 exams are scheduled to be conducted from mid-November in OFFLINE mode. However, the conditions aren't any better than the 1st quarter of the year. Its festive season in India, the chances of third wave hitting the country be the highest. All health experts warning for the third wave standing on the verge of gulping entire country up. Looking upon the risk, how prudent you think it is to conduct examination in offline mode? I'll say not at all.
However, it's point worth noting that CBSE is not the only board to divide the year in two parts and taking exams. One of the major boards named 'The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE)', followed the same path with a bit difference in implementation. It has divided the year in two semester but has given the students complete freedom to choose upon the medium of giving the exams, i.e., online or offline with a clear notice and CBSE watching it all silently.
If one of the major board can allow students the choice of medium of exam why can't CBSE give up on its orthodox principles of conducting boards offline only. It's said 'Modern problems require modern solutions' and why can't CBSE understand it. I strongly recommend that CBSE should ask students which medium do they want to give their exams in as in the end of the day, it's the student who will be affected by it. And even most parents want online examinations as their son/daughter's health is more important than a piece of paper which only measures the capacity of students in remembering things.
I hope you'll look into all the points and understand the risk involved. Now I leave it up to you whether to support me or not. I believe you'll take the best decision.
