Please help Us Fight The CDC ban on Bringing Street Dogs to Homes in the US!
The Issue
URGENT HELP NEEDED! CALLING ON OUR SUPPORTERS.
STRAY DOG SUPPORT NEEDS YOUR HELP to overturn the recent CDC ban on the import of dogs (i.e. "rescue dogs") from over 113 countries from around the world due to alleged risk of rabies/ falsified rabies vaccination records. While I understand the need for tighter restrictions, I believe including dogs in need from reputable organizations is overbroad, unnecessary, inhumane and most importantly unsupported by science.
There are many reputable nonprofit rescue organizations like Stray Dog Support that responsibly bring homeless, abandoned and abused dogs from these countries to the US -- where they are adopted into loving homes and given a second chance at life.
We are petitioning the CDC to reconsider the ban’s extremity, and develop a tailored policy that would prevent unscrupulous actors from importing dogs with false paperwork -- but would not hurt thousands of deserving dogs that depend on reliable rescuers abroad and their forever families in the US.
Speaking on behalf of Stray Dog Support we are a 501c(3) non profit that ensures we do everything correctly in terms of vetting, import permits and brokers which add additional costs. While I respect the CDCs decision this is a huge setback for us as we have over 230 dogs waiting for their chance of finding a home. We have mostly special needs dogs who have suffered abuse, neglect and torture and have no chance to find homes in these countries. This means certain death to many animals and this is unfair to punish reputable rescues. We are so devastated by this news as now we have to find places to keep our dogs long term which will in turn cost us more money in boarding fees as well as having to keep them healthy and not be able to get more advanced medical care which some of them need. The CDC has given us 30 days notice and as a small rescue we just cannot afford to move that many dogs but we are going to try and do what we can do and get some out and we need your help.
I am very transparent and wanted to update you all on the state of play right now as this has rocked the international rescue world. We expect this ban to be at least 12 months which is so sad as this means we will be very limited in getting dogs out and many more dogs will not be able to get help as rescues will not be able to get them because there will be nowhere to keep them and no option to get them abroad. I wanted to share this with you so that you can understand how difficult international rescue is and to understand where we are at.
Please sign this petition and help us fight this ban and help the animals in need.
