Recently the Osceola County district informed us that they would be unable to hold the traditional graduations planned for the week of July 6th, 2020. While we understand the decision made due to the current events regarding COVID-19 and also appreciate the determination of Celebration High School to continue honoring the hard work of the graduates, we would like to propose an alternative. Instead of getting rid of the speeches, dividing students into 10 different groups and only giving 60 minutes for students to walk across the stage, which would most likely result in chaos, we propose a social distancing graduation at the football field.
The pros of having a Graduation in the football field:

- It has enough space to place chairs 6 ft apart which will ensure social distancing.
- It is an open space which will prevent crowding and will ensure safety.
- Schools across the country have taken this option and it was successful.
- Face masks and hand sanitizer can be provided upon arrival.
- Students will be able to have a proper graduation with speeches along with all their classmates present.
- Students will be able to graduate at the same time.
- It will allow more time to honor each student and take pictures.
- It will prevent the graduation from turning into chaos.
- It will allow for family stadium spacing.
- It gives the opportunity for the valedictorian, salutatorian and the Class president to speak at graduation after their hard work over these past four years.
-It’s safer than hosting a graduation in a closed space inside the school.

If those responsible for organizing the graduation find that the space is not enough to accommodate the whole 2020 graduating class and family, we encourage them to consider the option of dividing the class in half and having two ceremonies.
