Chuck E. Cheese is a name you’ve most likely heard before. Either you have held your birthday there before or went to have a fun time with your family and/or friends. Chuck E. Cheese has been suffering lately, with nearly a billion dollars in debt and the COVID-19 pandemic causing stores to shut down. One possible reason for its failure in business is how many times they have rebranded the restaurants into bizarre changes. In 1998, the mascot Chuck E. Cheese was changed into the avenger era Chuck E, the one you most likely grew up with. By 2000, the company was growing at a quick rate making avenger era the most iconic and successful era of Chuck E. Cheese. But in 2012, they saw a sale slump and decided to rebrand Chuck E. into a totally different mascot, angering many customers who then refused to return. Around 2016, CEC Entertainment got rid of the legendary tokens replacing it with a “Play Pass Card.” This ruined the original concept and idea of Chuck E. Cheese ruining the childhood of past generations and future generations to come. Now, in 2020, with all these changes, they are seeing a decrease in customer satisfaction and with almost a billion dollars debt, they are deciding to COMPLETELY remove all animatronics from every location replacing it with an interactive dance floor. In my opinion, this will only make matters worst. This new project is going to be expensive, and dealing with a billion dollars in debt is NOT the time to redesign. This is also terrible for the company because animatronics are what made Chuck E. Cheese successful in the first place! Children love to come and see the animatronics singing songs, talking with each other, and doing other fun things. Animatronics are one of the things someone would think of when the word Chuck E. Cheese is said besides pizza and Chuck E. himself. If CEC Entertainment wants to do well, they should bring back avenger era Chuck E. and also bring back tokens and keep animatronics to save the childhood of the past and future generations. Let’s fight until we bring back avenger Chuck E, tokens, and animatronics for good!
