Ceasefire on Women’s Bodies: End the War in Sudan

Ceasefire on Women’s Bodies: End the War in Sudan
The Issue
The war in Sudan has unleashed one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time, with over 11 million people displaced—54% of them women and girls—who face relentless conflict related sexual violence, starvation, and displacement. Darfur and Blue Nile are engulfed in atrocities, where mass killings, sexual violence, and ethnic targeting persist unchecked. The Zamzam IDP camp, one of the largest displacement sites, is on the brink of catastrophe, with thousands trapped without food, water, or medical aid.
We, the women and girls of Africa and beyond, demand an end to this war. Sudan cannot afford another day of bloodshed. The international community cannot continue to look away.
The Reality on the Ground
✔ Conflict related sexual violence is being weaponized—women and girls are abducted, raped, and trafficked into modern slavery. Survivors face impunity and silence.
✔ Unregulated arms are fueling the conflict—weapons continue to flow into Sudan from regional and global actors, making peace impossible.
✔ Famine looms—blockades and conflict have pushed Sudan to the brink of starvation, while humanitarian aid remains dangerously underfunded.
✔ Women are shut out of decision-making—despite being the backbone of resilience and grassroots peacebuilding, Sudanese women remain excluded from peace talks and political negotiations.
We Demand:
- An Immediate Ceasefire NOW– The hostilities must stop NOW. Every day of continued fighting deepens the suffering and devastation. The killing must end. The war must stop now.
- An Arms Embargo & End to the Weaponization of War – We demand the African Union’s Silencing the Guns initiative be enforced with action. Regional and international actors must halt the influx of arms that are intensifying this conflict.
- Protection from Conflict-Related Sexual Violence – Sudanese women and girls must not be collateral damage in this war. The world must act to prevent and prosecute these crimes, with urgent intervention to protect IDPs, especially in Zamzam camp and conflict zones across Darfur and Blue Nile.
- The Inclusion of Women in Peace Negotiations – Research proves that peace agreements with women’s participation are 35% more likely to last. We demand the inclusion of Sudanese women and feminist leaders in all decision-making bodies to ensure sustainable peace.
- Urgent Humanitarian Aid NOW – The humanitarian response remains dangerously underfunded. Sudan needs immediate and unrestricted access to food, healthcare, and shelter to prevent mass starvation and suffering.
- Accountability Must Not Be Traded for Peace – There can be no negotiations that legitimize war criminals. The Sudanese Army, RSF paramilitary forces, and all political actors must be held accountable for their crimes.
We Call On:
📢 The Sudanese Army, RSF, and Armed Groups – Ceasefire and commit to an immediate halt of hostilities.
📢 African Governments & the African Union – Take a firm stance and uphold your responsibility in enforcing peace and stopping arms flow.
📢 The UN Security Council – Implement a global arms embargo on Sudan and ensure accountability for war crimes.
📢 Civil Society & Feminist Organizations – Mobilize resources, amplify voices, and push for a feminist peace process.
📢 The International Community – Honor your commitments to justice, human rights, and peace in Sudan.
