Cease the AI usage from Townview Business Administration
The Issue
In the rise of the Class of 2027's senior year, the School of Business at Townview has seen the usage of AI (Artificial Intelligence) to create posters and center an entire (primarily senior aiding) event around the use of AI in the alignment with DISD's AI initiative. However, the first goal stated in this initiative is: "Use AI as a Support, Not a Shortcut. AI can brainstorm, explain, and give feedback-but your own ideas, effort, and creativity comes first." For the majority of our lives, teachers are the role models who we look up to in order to help us and set the example of what we should and shouldn't do. Yet it is evident that our own teachers and senior advisor are using AI as a shortcut straying from the focus of this initiative.
The spike in usage of AI in the entire world sparks concerns about the environment concerning the AI data center water usage and the replacement of able human projects to cut corners and to put it simply, be lazy.
The usage of AI is very prominent in the School of Business, with almost, if not every, post that isn't a photo or video being an AI-made poster. The School of Business maintains a "Social Media and Marketing" pathway "that guides students with proficient skills for designing and executing school-wide promotional campaigns." Replacing student work with the creations of AI is something majority of Townview students cannot stand behind. The amount of usage of AI by our administration team contradicts the policies that not only many Townview teachers uphold in their classrooms, but the values DISD sets in place. Not only this, but it undermines the talent, creativity, and hard work of the Townview Social Media team.
Many companies, schools, and students turn to AI for quick and easy solutions, replacing the creative minds behind human made creativity. Townview high school has a wide and diverse community of talented artists. Our biggest exemplar is the School of Health Professions Class of 2027 Student Council, who have driven the biggest initiative of maintaining a non-AI workspace with their peers.
Out of all the schools in Townview, Business has the most reason to not be the ones to use AI for their social media and marketing outreach towards their students. We must hold our administration accountable and not condone the usage of AI.
"Guidelines for AI Use in Dallas ISD:
01. AI tools should be used to support critical thinking, creativity, and personalized
learning. Teachers and students must understand that AI is a tool to aid in
learning, not a substitute for personal effort, inquiry, or problem-solving."
This petition should be used in no way to call out specific members of the school's faculty, direct any hate, disrespect, or ostracize the School of Business Management Administration Team. School is an environment meant to foster growth, creativity, and unity. That does not exclude faculty members.
