Cease Deportation of Foreign Nationals with British Families

The Issue

Everyday foreign nationals residing in the United Kingdom face the risk of being deported, even when they have established roots and have loved ones who are British. This includes their children and spouses. According to Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford, about 15% foreign-born individuals in the UK have British citizen children. It is both heartbreaking and unfair for children and spouses who are citizens to endure the abrupt loss of a loved one due to deportation. Moreover, the psychological implications on families and especially children are enormous and often overlooked. Psychologists such as Aarti Iyer from the University of Sheffield have written extensively about the severe emotional toll it takes on families. It is crucial for this policy to be reviewed and for the government to take into consideration the dire consequences of splitting up families, especially those with British children and spouses. We call on lawmakers to humanely reconsider this policy and urge them to put forth legislative changes that protect and uphold the unity of these families. Please, support our cause and sign this petition.
