I speak with politeness and respect for those who have taken the time to read our petition and sign. I speak with so much love for the Youth and the future of American Samoa.
This petition is no personal attack on ASG, Village Councils, or anyone. The petition is a platform to respectfully voice our concerns as a voter, a taxpayer, and a resident of Pago Pago. My work in the community, raising awareness against substance abuse, has a significant bearing on why we started this petition. Still, it was with the permission and support of my elders. I utilize this petition and platform wisely and with caution.
Early morning on Saturday (12/09), Governor Lemanu, some cabinet members, staff, Representative Vesiai Samuelu, Pago Pago Village Council members, and myself met at the new boathouse site on Pago Park. Governor Lemanu, Directors, and others made time to hear our concerns. They acknowledged the drug issue, and that's also important. Things will move, and the kids will return to safer play areas. We were guaranteed the park is now a priority. The boathouse construction continues, though.
Today, Our village council met (12/12). I am also very proud of our leaders' speaking and supporting our Youth's voices. They acknowledged the issues the Youth are dealing with daily and want to provide whatever support they can while cooperating with the government. This was the purpose of the petition: to see action.
This platform was a healthy engagement between all parties. A display that shows if we unify, great things can happen. We now have the support of the village council and the Governor's word, prioritizing the upgrades for Pago Park as soon as possible. This should be an example of respectfully raising our concerns about critical issues, especially those with Youth. We thank the village council for their wisdom, the cabinet for coming out in the rain to witness the park conditions, and the Youth for continuing to be proactive in our fight against substance abuse in Pago Pago.
