During the COVID-19 pandemic, a majority of classes have been moved to a fully online format. Spring and Summer 2020 classes both offered pass/fail grading due to this less than ideal learning environment.

A lot of UC CEAS courses have not been taught in this format, and the transition has still not fully developed for the students and staff. Due to the less than ideal circumstances, students should have the option to take advantage of pass/fail grading if their letter grade does not reflect their effort and amount of information learned during their courses. Students' GPAs should not be negatively impacted by a situation they cannot control.
