Glenna Richards started this petition to Charleston County School Board

The school board looks to re-zone district 2 because Sullivans Island and James B. Edwards will no longer be a partial magnet school. Mount Pleasant school district lines are once again being redrawn.

We need to make it clear that we do not want over 600 kids rezoned in Mount Pleasant.

The effects of getting rid of the successful partial magnet schools.

  1. Force neighborhoods to drive further to a different school that increases already congested traffic.
  2. Mentally and emotionally damage our children by removing them from their school family.
  3. Harm hard-working schools and teachers.
  4. Removing kids that want to be at a school and replacing them with kids that do NOT want to be at the school.

Psychologists agree that moving has the most profound impact on kids over the age of 5, as it’s particularly difficult for them to leave behind friends and adjust to a new school during this important time of development. A move sets children back 1 year developmentally because the child is forced to focus on basic needs and protecting themselves in stressful situations instead of higher learning.

Please help by signing this petition to keep our partial magnet schools and not to rezone over 600 children.
