the dress code system is disgusting and supports rape culture. our bodies should not be sexualized. the narrative that girls need to cover up so boys won’t get distracted is sickening. this implies that it is our fault for having a body around other guys. boys getting “distracted” by shoulders, bra straps, thighs, and so much more is an excuse for immaturity. guys can control themselves, saying otherwise is condescending. don’t forget that the dress code is enforcing heteronormativity and ignoring non-binary people. the human body is not inherently shameful unless you make it so. bodies along with skin are natural, and we should not be ridiculed for it. we understand not showing up in a bra and underwear, but we live in vegas, where we go back to school early august and the weather is STILL in the 100s until late september. even after that, it only goes down to the 90s/80s. we should be allowed to wear shorts and spaghetti straps. it’s normal to wear these things due to the heat, so why can’t we continue to do that in school? it’s time for change. we are suffering due to the lack of maturity between our staff members, not us.
