Changing to 4-day work weeks

Changing to 4-day work weeks
The Issue
Many of us work or have experienced 5-day work weeks that leave us only two days to situate other life duties with never enough time to rest. The time we work to survive takes away from the time we deserve to live; to put toward our families, friends, and ourselves. The 5-day work week leaves us exhausted, with the routine of waiting in rush hour traffic and arriving home late with no energy left. Is it fair to work 75% of the week and 25% to take care of our own lives? What difference would be made by changing our work weeks into four days instead?
A 4-day work week would offer more time to put toward our relationships and personal health. In today's world, it is easy to overlook the importance of self-care and the people who matter most to us. Studies from New Zealand found that employees not only improved their work-life balance but also came back energized after their days off. Allowing employees to have more time to focus on themselves motivates more creativity and productivity in their work.
A 4-day work week can also benefit our planet through limited rush hours. A day less of work means a day less of commute. This will lessen our carbon footprint and remove the stress from rush hour traffic we experience every workday. Overall, this can positively change our own lives and the planet we live in.
