Castro Nail Salon and Castro Coffee Company Need Your Immediate Support

The Issue

The Castro Coffee Company and Castro Nail Salon have been operating for decades - and now big developer APE has decided to evict our businesses after decades of faithfully serving the community. Please help us save our businesses and keep the small businesses in the Castro alive:

  1. Sign the Change.org petition to pressure APE to stop the eviction
  2. Write to Supervisor Mendelman (mandelmanstaff@sfgov.org) to intervene and stop APE from kicking us out!

No to gentrification and big developers in the Castro! Support small businesses!

A note from the owners:

In January 2022, the Naser family signed a lease with Another Planet Entertainment (APE) to take over the Castro Theatre and convert it into a concert and entertainment venue. As soon as we became aware of this, we immediately reached out to Chris Naser — the Naser family's representative — to ask if this would affect our lease situation. Chris Naser assured us that our lease agreements would not be impacted.

However, we have now learned that when the Nasers signed the lease with APE in January 2022, they simultaneously signed over the entire building, including the spaces occupied by our two long-standing businesses. This means that after our leases expire this June, APE will take control of our locations, effectively forcing us out.

Adding insult to injury, the Nasers waited until late January 2025, a full three years after signing the agreement with APE, to finally inform us that our leases would be ending this June. Their lack of transparency and honesty is deeply disingenuous and profoundly disrespectful, both to us and to the community we have served for decades.

Despite meeting with and emailing both the Nasers and APE multiple times, we have been offered no real options or alternatives. In good faith, we kept this situation private for as long as possible, hoping for a resolution. Unfortunately, it is now clear that neither party intends to act fairly and we refuse to stay silent any longer.

Our businesses are not just stores -  they are pillars of this community. Together, we represent 70 years of service, relationships, and commitment to the Castro neighborhood. Evicting us is not simply a business decision; it is an attack on the heart of a community we love and have faithfully served.

We urgently need your support.

Please sign our joint petition and encourage your friends, neighbors, and colleagues to do the same. Together, we can send a powerful and clear message: KEEP OUR BUSINESSES OPEN. Keep the spirit of the Castro alive. Thank you for standing with us.

With gratitude,

Riyad Khoury (Castro Nail Salon)

Ken Khoury (Castro Coffee Company)
