Carrie-ann Curtis started this petition to Castle Point & Rochford CCG (CCG)

Firstly I’ll tell you a little bit about me and why this petition is so important.

My name is Carrie-Ann Curtis, I’m 27 years old and I work with the NHS, I grew up in little village for 25 years around a very loving family. 2 years ago my partner and I decided we would try for a family, we prepared for this by moving from Southend to Canvey island into a lovely 3 bed house that would cater for children, despite our efforts to conceive this hasn’t happened yet.

In September we asked our GP at our new surgery in Canvey island for fertility tests for me and my partner to see if we could get some answers as to why we were not falling pregnant.
After 4 blood tests, 2 scans and many many more, my partner and I found out that we would find it extremely difficult to conceive naturally, this understandably came as shocking as heartbreaking news, so we started our referral for IVF, it was sent off in January to Southend fertility clinic and we were told that we had our very first fertility phone appointment on Thursday 25th February.

We were ecstatic! FINALLY!

However during the phone call we were told by the consultant that because we had moved to Canvey island, we were not eligible for IVF, they said that we have to be with 1 GP for longer than 3 years, even though we had been with our previous GP for 26 years and only changed GP’s because we had moved a short while away to prepare better for a family.

I think it’s completely unfair that we are being denied the help of IVF to have a baby all because we have moved to better our lives.

WHAT I HOPE TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS PETITION: I want the CCG to recognise that people move houses, it is absolutely normal for people to move out of area, albeit 10 minutes up the road to better their living circumstances in order to start a family.

I would like the Castle point CCG to change the criteria so that even if you have moved to a different GP you should still be eligible for IVF.  They should take into consideration that your file from your previous doctors come with you and you should not be pushed aside just because you’ve moved GP.

Please help change the IVF eligibility criteria for castle point.

kind regards
