Maintain the Same Financial Aid Package for Remote Learning

Maintain the Same Financial Aid Package for Remote Learning

The Issue

Currently, case plans on reducing the cost of a student's financial aid package if they plan to move to remote learning. As stated on the housing release form, "Your financial aid package may be impacted if you are released from housing. Please check with the financial aid office before pursuing this option."

Many families have been experiencing financial hardships as well as health issues due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This has caused many to rethink their decision to return to campus, as remote learning poses a safer and cheaper form of education for many students. It is completely unacceptable for Case Western Reserve University to be penalizing these students for their choice. While other universities, such as Purdue, are lowering their tuition cost for remote learning, Case is increasing our tuition as well as reducing our financial aid packages.

Case Western Reserve University should maintain the same grant and scholarship amounts for anyone planning on moving to remote learning. The tuition cost of remote learning should not be equivalent to that of in-person education. We are not receiving the same quality education at home as we would be in a classroom environment.
