Wake County EMS in North Carolina is attempting to achieve a merger with a smaller organization (Cary EMS). Wake County is a paramedic only agency, while Cary accepts EMTs and paramedics. A merger would result in 67 EMS providers losing their jobs. This is because a merger would force the EMTs to take a paramedic class before working for WCEMS. Many of these 67 providers neither have the time nor money to become paramedics. Which would put them out of work and further deplete a suffering agency.
