Bring Classic Hanna-Barbera Cartoons Back to Boomerang!
The Issue
We all love cartoons, don't we? We all grew up with our favorite classic cartoons; whether it's the Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Popeye, or the classics from Hanna-Barbera. Beginning in 1958, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera gave us so many of our favorite characters: Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Magilla Gorilla, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Secret Squirrel, Scooby-Doo, just to name a few.
Cartoon Network originally showcased Hanna-Barbera's classics on a daily basis, and the same could be said for their sister channel, Boomerang. But in recent years, Cartoon Network has been focused on their original programming, phasing out the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons in favor of more recent programming. Boomerang, the cartoon equivalent of TV Land, used to be a bastian for everything classic Hanna-Barbera, but they stopped showing the vintage cartoons as well. Boomerang airs reruns of the Cartoon Cartoons from the late 90/early 2000s, as well as the more recent Scooby-Doo incarnations from the 2010s.
You know what Boomerang's idea of "classic cartoons" is? Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry. That's it. No Yogi Bear, no Huckleberry Hound, no Jetsons, not even the Flintstones. As a cartoon fan and expert, I really enjoyed late Sunday nights when I watched Yogi, Huck, Atom Ant, and Secret Squirrel over 20 years ago. DVDs of classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons are very rare, and it's even harder to find these cartoon shorts online for free. I've tried for a long time to find Ricochet Rabbit, Squiddly Diddly, and Breezly & Sneezly, just to name a few, online, but to no avail.
Boomerang needs to air the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons again. Today's cartoon fans need to know about Hanna-Barbera's many, many contributions, because let's fact it, in this cartoon fan's humble opinion, those cartoons are better than about 70% of the stuff that's on TV now. Boomerang has a cartoon marathon containing mostly classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons, but it's only for Thanksgiving weekend. If you love classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons as much as I do, if you want to see Yogi Bear and other Hanna-Barbera classics on Boomerang again, by all means, please sign this petition!!! Thank you so much!
