REPRESENTATION MATTERS! What we see on our favourite shows as a kid can affect how we feel, think and act when we grow up. as someone who can honestly say that Cartoons played a big part in how I think about the world, having a character to represent the LGBTQ+ community is a huge deal. Having an episode about Marceline and Princess bubblegum's past relationship could have a huge impact on how kids percieve Homosexuality, I saw a post one day on the internet about a kid who was going blind and his/her mother was crying but her 8 year daughter told her that it was fine and that she will be strong like Toph from Avatar and the legend of aang, Having someone to represent you is amazing. Yes being blind and being Gay is completely different, but having someone to identify with may it be because of your disablities or how you are feeling, how you feel Is completely the same. It's an amazing feeling. It helps you understand that it's not the end of the world. and with a show as popular as adventure time, Having an episode about the LGBTQ+ is a huge step. not only will it open opportunities for other shows to have LGBTQ+ characters, it will also help open the minds of this new generation of more accepting and understanding people.
