Carthage College: Honoring the Geese

Carthage College: Honoring the Geese
The Issue
If you’ve spent more than five minutes on Carthage College’s campus, you already know the truth: the geese run this place.
They walk the sidewalks like they pay tuition, block traffic like they’re late for class, and pose for more photos than most students on Instagram. Whether you love them, fear them, or have personally been chased by one, the geese have become an undeniable part of the Carthage experience. At this point, they’re not just wildlife—they’re a campus tradition.
That’s why we, the students of Carthage College, propose creating an official tribute to our feathered icons. This could be something as simple as a small statue, a designated “Goose Crossing” landmark, or even a plaque recognizing their role in shaping campus culture. It would give students something fun to rally around, add personality to our beautiful lakeside campus, and finally give the geese the recognition they clearly believe they deserve.
Beyond the humor, this tribute could also serve as a lighthearted reminder of the importance of respecting and coexisting with local wildlife. The geese are part of what makes our campus unique—and protecting that environment ensures future students can experience the same chaotic charm we all know and love.
Let’s be honest—when people think of Carthage, they think of the lake… and the geese. It’s time we embrace it.
Sign this petition to support a lasting (and slightly chaotic) tribute to the true mascots of Carthage College.
Long live the geese.
