We the undersigned neighbors of the Carriger Road, small businesses and other interested parties in the community, strongly oppose the creation of Exclusion Zones (X zones), which prohibit the establishment of Vacation Rentals (Short-Term Rentals) for the following reasons:

1. The process for X Zone creation is flawed. The swiftness that this is being voted upon, without full and proper community engagement, is startling. This process enables a vocal minority to control the property rights of all in a given community. At its worst, it pits neighbor against neighbor. 
2. In the future, should a life event require me to produce income from my property to remain in my home, pay for unexpected repairs or maintenance, cover emergency medical bills, or assist with some other life changing event (ie. divorce, death of a spouse, loss of a job, care of a loved one etc.), this would prohibit me from doing so. 
3. X Zones would prohibit me and other homeowners from the option of purposing my home as a vacation rental, thereby changing what is allowed in my current zoning. 
4. Without any economic study, this X Zone would hinder me and other small businesses such as landscapers, house cleaners, plumbers, electricians, and other home care professionals from thriving in my community. 
5. The surrounding small businesses in our community thrive on the basis of affordable visitation to our community. Bookshops, cafes, restaurants, wineries, gift shops and more all rely on visitors to have profitable small enterprises. This helps create jobs and helps our community thrive. 
    

While we support sound, well thought out legislation that creates an environment for Vacation Rentals to operate responsibly and safely, we oppose strongly outright bans and caps, as it removes the rights of homeowners to use our properties in a manner that is currently allowed and legal.
