🚨 Carol Stream Residents: We Need a Stronger Sewer Line Policy 🚨

The Issue

Did you know that failing sanitary sewer lines—especially aging cast iron pipes—can leak sewage into the ground and potentially contaminate our local water systems?

Right now, the Village offers a cost-share program:

While this is a step in the right direction, it’s not enough.

📌 The current program:

  • Covers only 50% of repair costs (up to $10,000)
  • Applies only to portions under the roadway
Leaves homeowners responsible for potentially tens of thousands of dollars

Meanwhile, sewer infrastructure is critical to public health, not just private property. When these lines fail, the impact goes beyond one home—it affects groundwater, neighborhoods, and our entire community.

💧 Carol Stream maintains over 100+ miles of sewer infrastructure, moving wastewater to treatment facilities every day.
But aging private service lines remain a weak point in the system.

✍️ We are asking the Village of Carol Stream to:

  • Expand cost coverage beyond 50%
  • Include full replacement of aging cast iron pipes
  • Provide financial assistance for the entire service line—not just under the road
  • Treat sewer line replacement as essential infrastructure, not optional homeowner expense

    ✅ Why this matters:
  • Prevent sewage leaks into soil and water
  • Protect property values
  • Reduce long-term infrastructure costs
  • Ensure safe, sustainable water for everyone
