Petition updateStop selling unsafe, recalled cars to consumers.Car dealers want to legalize sales of used cars with lethal safety defects
Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety

California car dealers are pushing aggressively to legalize sales of used cars being recalled due to safety defects like brakes that don't work, faulty steering, catching on fire, and exploding air bags that spew shrapnel into people's faces and blind them or make them bleed to death. Under current law, if a dealer conceals an important fact, such as the fact the car is so defective, the manufacturer has issued a safety recall, that's usually considered fraud. That can trigger punitive damages -- which helps discourage dealers from deceiving their customers. Basically, the car dealers are trying to make what CarMax is doing legal for all car dealers to do -- and get away with it, if they just "disclose" the recall. What they won't tell you: because of parts shortages, and a lack of enough trained auto mechanics, it could take months or even a couple years before you can get your newly purchased car fixed so that it's safe to drive.
