Altalia is a smart, attractive looking restaurant on the corner of Stepney Street and Market Street, in Llanelli town centre. Previously the Cambrian Hotel & the Barbican, the building has stood in this location since the 1800s. The building is structurally sound, and also up until very recently vacated. However, in a recent post on walesonline.com & also a post on Llanelli Unseen on Facebook, rumours have been spreading that this building, along with others further down Stepney Street, are earmarked for demolition with. I, along with many others, believe that this is not necessary, and have always admired this building due to it's unique exterior. I nearly started a change.org petition regarding Siop Y Werin, a building further down, but could see that this was badly dilapidated, and would be difficult to restore easily. The other buildings are in poor condition, but Altalia is still fine. This town has lost many prominent buildings in the last 15 years or so, such as Buckleys Brewery, the Island House, & the Stepney Hotel. No one wants more heritage to be lost, when it could very easily be saved. I am sure I am not alone in this opinion. Join me in this campaign to save this unique building.
