Carl's Jr. Must Protect Its Workers From Violence — Not Just Its Profits

Carl's Jr. Must Protect Its Workers From Violence — Not Just Its Profits
The Issue
Yolanda Cruz has worked at Carl's Jr. for 20 years. She is 66 years old. And every single day she clocks in for work, she is afraid.
"What else can we do? Just pray to God that how we get to work is the same way we return home at the end of the day," she said. "This is the fear we have all the time."
Yolanda is not alone. Workers at a North Hollywood Carl's Jr. have described robberies, physical assaults and constant harassment from customers. They have asked the company for safety training. They have asked for protection. Carl's Jr. has refused.
On Tuesday, Yolanda and a fellow worker walked off the job. About 30 members of the California Fast Food Workers Union stood with them outside the restaurant on Vineland Avenue. Workers said the company not only fails to protect them from violence but also denies them proper access to paid sick leave — meaning when they are injured on the job they do not even get time to recover.
Carl's Jr. is a multi-billion dollar fast food chain. It has the resources to protect the people who show up every day to keep its restaurants running. It is choosing not to.
Twenty years of showing up. Twenty years of fear. Yolanda deserves better. Every Carl's Jr. worker deserves better.
We are calling on Carl's Jr. to immediately implement workplace safety training, install proper security measures and guarantee workers access to paid sick leave when they are injured on the job.
Sign this petition and tell Carl's Jr.: your workers should not have to pray to make it home safely.
